Bright Beginnings Celebrates the District’s
Champions for Children
On May 5, 2016 Bright Beginnings, Inc. hosted the third annual Champions for Children Awards Ceremony and Reception. This year’s honorees included, John Wall, Sue Marshall, and the Junior League of Washington.
The reception was a beautiful gathering of local advocates, and community partners from all over the District.
Honorees shared moving remarks, reminding guests that our work serving DC’s most vulnerable children is far from finished. This year's event was dedicated in remembrance of Bright Beginnings' former Executive Director Dr. Betty Jo Gaines and her phenomenal legacy as a Champion for Children throughout her illustrious career. Guests were also graced with powerful reflections on the status of homelessness in the district and a call to action by Deputy Mayor Courtney Snowden.
We thank our 2016 Champions for their commitment to growth in early childhood education and social services, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to thrive. All proceeds raised from Champions for Children will be dedicated to the construction of our new center in Ward 8 in Dr. Gaines' memory.
