  • Last year, over 1,800 children under the age of five were registered as homeless in Washington, D.C.
  • On any given day, according to the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, more than 12,000 people in Washington metropolitan area are homeless.
  • More than 40 percent of the area's homeless people are families and nearly one-third of those are homeless children.

Bright Beginnings is a Head Start and Early Head Start program providing comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families.

Bright Beginnings incorporates the High/Scope approach to learning throughout its daily curriculum. Using the High/Scope approach, Bright Beginnings teachers guide to reach important developmental milestones through the mastery of outlined key experiences.

Bright Beginnings is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Less than 7% of all of early childhood programs nationwide hold this accreditation.

The Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness serves as a focal point for efforts to reduce and prevent homelessness in the District of Columbia. Bright Beginnings collaborates with the Community Partnership through their “Continuum of Care” program, which provides prevention services, street outreach, emergency shelter, transitional housing, permanent supportive housing and supportive services for homeless individuals and families facing barriers to independence.
