In this issue:
One of my highest priorities is sharing the stories of homeless families and their young children as they make progress each day in preparing for kindergarten and stabilizing their lives. I hope you will take advantage of 2 very special opportunities in June to be an important part of their story.
Bright Beginnings will be celebrating fathers throughout the month of June, and we’re calling all Dads, Daddies, Papas, Babbas, Padres and Pop Pops to visit us this month! We have many kid-friendly projects in mind for you to do with our special children. Our children will love the time you spend helping them make Father’s Day gifts, doing science projects, reading to them or creating a kid-friendly project of your own. Please sign up throughout June for our Dad-stravaganza and add your handprint to our Father’s Day mural!
We are also gearing up for our 2011 Parent Auction on June 28, which rewards our most active parents for all the positive actions they have taken for their children and to stabilize their lives. Our annual Parent Auction rewards the parents who are actively participating in their children’s education and making the positive choices that will stabilize their families, such as getting a GED, completing college courses, getting and keeping a job and taking advantage of our parenting, health and child development training classes. Homeless parents will be able to “shop” for household, bathroom and kitchen supplies in a store created just for them. We reward our families with useful household items that will make their home lives a little more pleasant and a few items (such as restaurant gift cards) just for fun. Please help us reward our families’ hard work by choosing items from our wish list or gift card guide.
Dr. Betty Jo Gaines
P.S. Your donation of wish list items or gift cards will make our parents’ lives a lot brighter.

Give a gift that keeps on giving this Father’s Day!
If you’re looking for a special way to honor your father this year, make a gift that will celebrate all your father taught you and everything he did to make you the person you are today. We’ll send your father a special card acknowledging your gift and telling him about the big impact your gift will make on the lives of homeless families and their young children.

Thank you for supporting Bright Beginnings' Annual 5K Race with your sponsorships, race registrations and donations! More than 531 of you registered for the race and made donations that will directly benefit homeless infants, toddlers and preschoolers and their families. We owe special thanks to the Junior League of Washington, which graciously plans and executes the 5K Race each year, and our generous sponsors for their commitment to homeless families with young children. Check out the race day photos.
