Individual Volunteer Opportunities

Classroom Assistant: Help children as young as six weeks old develop important life skills. Classroom volunteers enrich Bright Beginnings’ program by providing “helping hands” and increased adult-child interactions. Classroom volunteers help maintain a positive environment, assist the classroom staff to implement daily activities, and support the children to master key skills needed for educational achievement.

Bright Beginnings strives to provide children with a sense of stability and consistency in the classroom and requests that all classroom volunteers to commit to a 6-month or semester long, weekly volunteer schedule.

Professional Speakers: Do you have a valuable skill you are willing to share? Bright Beginnings’ family and health services coordinator is continually looking to provide clients with valuable workshops, presentations and seminars. Previous volunteers have presented on accessing legal support, incorporating nutrition and exercise into your daily routine, infant and toddler massage, time and financial management and improving self-esteem.

Financial/Legal Advisors: Bright Beginnings’ family service team often seeks legal and financial assistance to support parents in need of counsel. Previous workshops have included reducing debt, opening a checking and savings account, financial budgeting, accessing child support and tenant rights.

Day-long or Half-Day Group Opportunities

Literacy Dinners: Volunteers groups are welcome to host a Family Literacy Dinner at the center. Volunteers read to children and host literacy related activities while parents participate in workshops to strengthen their child and family’s literacy. Volunteer groups purchase books and assemble reading kits to be distributed to participating families. The event closes with a family style dinner for children, parents, staff and volunteers. Approximately 10-15 volunteers are needed for this event.

Book Drives: Volunteers groups are encouraged to host book drives and help assemble and distribute take-home reading kits for approximately 65-70 families. Previous kits have included crayons, paper, pencils, art supplies, and age-appropriate books and magazines.

Annual Saturday Clean Up Day: Volunteers are welcome to come out to the center during our Saturday Clean Up Day armed with cleaning supplies and rubber gloves.  Friends and family help repair and refresh the center. Previous volunteer groups have donated supplies and labor to remove worn carpet and tile the center, paint the entire center and repair worn classroom materials.

Gift Drives: Help brighten the holidays for Bright Beginnings children and families and donate new clothes, books, educational toys, and toiletries during our holiday drive. Too hectiaround the holidays? Host a spring or summer drive and provide new clothes, umbrellas or back-to-school supplies to families in need.
