Bright Beginnings
Volunteer Testimony

Bright Beginning would not be what it is without the amazing support of our volunteers. Please browse the volunteer testimony section to read first-hand accounts about the volunteer community at BBI.

Name: Veronica Zuccarello, English Education major with minors in Urban Education and Disability Studies at the University of Delaware.

How did you hear about Bright Beginnings?
Through the alternative spring break program at UD (UDaB)
Had you ever volunteered before? I have volunteered with different organization through my life - including Habitat for Humanity and with soup kitchens and housing services through my church at home. Bright Beginnings was the first time I volunteered specifically with children and with an education program.

What do you love most about BBI?
Do I have to pick one thing? I think the entire community at BBI is why I always want to come back. Of course it is so easy to fall in love with the children, but I also fell in love with the teachers and the office staff and the organization as a whole. I truly think BBI is an organization that makes a difference and helps so many families in a way very few nonprofits really do. At the end of every day - no matter how difficult the day might have been - I still can't wait to go back the next day. That's probably the main thing I love about BBI - but I wouldn't feel that way if it wasn't for all the little things.

Do you have a favorite memory?
My favorite memory was the day I came back to BBI to watch my class, room 6, this summer have their graduation ceremony. The previous Friday my internship had ended, but I wanted to return to see them one more time. The kids did not know I was coming back, so when I walked in they were all so surprised and ran up to me even though their ceremony had started. Seeing how excited they were to see me was the best feeling in the world and I'll never forget that moment.

What would you say to a person who wanted to volunteer at BBI but was unsure? I would say never pass up a chance to work with these children. They will warm your heart and make you look at the world very differently - it was the best decision I ever made and I have no doubt it will be for you as well.
